Marching Along Together

Burger, and Bennie Gibs

Ull

The year began with Richard
Marzolf as president, Bill Barger
as vice-president, Bonnie Gibson as
secretary, Ollie Schultz as treasur¬
er, and Mr. Bey as the sponsor. When
Bonnie left between semesters, Peggy
Kring was elected to replace her.

The first important event of
the year was Homecoming, which is
sponsored by the Student Council. A
parade preceded the game and the
reception followed it. That evening
Johnny Moreland and his orchestra
played for the dance.

This past year a campaign was
begun to have a Normal Youth Center
with Normal Community High and U.
High cooperating jointly. The plan
is now in the hands of the American

Legion.

Annually a one-drive can^aign
is held—the Combined Chest. We ex¬
ceeded this year’s goal-- $175-* by
pushing the total up to $200.

A talent assembly was sponsored
by the Inter-city Student Council.
The same program was presented m
the four schools in the twin cities.

Everything was done to make the

tentative members •of the class of
1957 at U. High feel at home and
get acquainted with our high schoo
when Freshman Day was held in the
spring.

Tha t gives you an idea of the
Council’s work tnis year.

HARPER ROEHM

Coached by Mr. Harlan Farns¬
worth and captained by Harper Roehm,
the Pioneers opened the season at
Danvers December 2. The boys had
not completed the switch from foot¬
ball to basketball and dropped a
close one. From then on the team
battled to hold to the .500 mark,
losing out at the end of the season.
The final accounting showed nine
wins and thirteen losses.

In tournament play the Green
and Gold cagers dropped out of the
Lakeview Varsity tournament during
the holidays when the host team,
eventual tournament winner, nosed
them out. Fairbury got revenge for
a regular season defeat by clipping
the Pioneers in the first round of
the regional tournament to end the
season.

Letterwinners for the season
were Harper Roehm, Ollie Schultz,
Glen Plotner, Jim Wall, Glenn Adams,
Dean Sears, Don Swartz, and Ron
Kermeen.
